2024 Hyundai Elantra N

In just three short years, Hyundai's spirited Elantra N sport compact receives a well-deserved update, bringing its design more in line with the milder sedan it's based upon. While Hyundai has made some adjustments to the car's suspension system, the heart of the beast, the unchanged 276-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine, promises to deliver the same exhilarating straight-line performance for the 2024 model year. Needless to say, we're thrilled about that!

Our enthusiasm for the Elantra N runs deep, as it previously claimed the top spot in a comparison test against two of our other cherished sport compacts: the Honda Civic Si and the Volkswagen Jetta GLI. With the 2024 model, Hyundai introduces a fresh 19-inch wheel design and updates to the front and rear bumper covers, along with refreshed headlamps and taillights. These visual enhancements clearly distinguish the 2024 Elantra N from its 2023 predecessor, resulting in what we believe is a striking and well-executed update for this exceptional sport compact sedan.

2024 Hyundai Elantra N Pricing

For the Elantra N, pricing is estimated at around $36,000. This model arrives fully loaded with a compelling blend of attitude and top-notch equipment. Beyond the performance enhancements over the standard Elantra, you'll find a wealth of technology and safety features. Buyers can also choose from a range of attractive paint options, allowing for a touch of personalization.

Hyundai Elantra N Engine and Performance

Under the hood, the Hyundai Elantra N inherits its robust turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine from the Veloster N hatchback. While this engine delivers a formidable 275 horsepower in the Veloster N, the Elantra N takes it up a notch with an impressive 286-horsepower rating, thanks to the N Grin Shift overboost feature. This power advantage sets the Elantra N apart from competitors like the similarly priced Jetta GLI.

When it comes to transmissions, you have the choice of an eight-speed automatic or a standard six-speed manual—a welcome option for enthusiasts. In our testing with the eight-speed automatic, the Elantra N sprinted to 60 mph in a brisk 4.8 seconds and covered the quarter-mile in just 13.4 seconds@ 106 mph.

Behind the wheel, the Elantra N impresses with sharp throttle response, nimble handling, and a captivating exhaust note that adds to the driving thrill. Its longer wheelbase provides a more compliant ride compared to the Veloster N, without sacrificing the confidence-inspiring handling you expect from a sports sedan. As we spend more time with it, the Elantra N firmly establishes itself as a standout contender in the competitive sport compact segment, offering a thrilling driving experience.

  • N light sport bucket seats with an illuminated logo, combining style and comfort.

Hyundai Elantra N Exterior

The previous pre-facelift version may not have been everyone's favorite in terms of design, but this updated model brings a more cohesive and refined look to the table.

One of the standout features is the all-new headlight design, featuring projector lights and full LED daytime running lights. The turn signals are also full LED, adding to the premium feel. The redesigned front grille is smaller and thinner, with a captivating line that gives the illusion of illumination, reminiscent of the all-new Sonata's design. It's worth noting that this grille has a metal finish, not plastic, which enhances the overall quality. The flush Hyundai logo is a nice touch, and the incorporation of the Red Front End splitter adds an aggressive edge, reminiscent of the ionic 5.

Moving down the sides, you'll notice active air currents designed to optimize aerodynamics around the wheel wells. The 19-inch forged wheels with red brake calipers not only look fantastic but are also easier to clean, making maintenance a breeze. The overall wheel design is a notable improvement, especially when compared to the Korean specification.

The side profile remains largely unchanged, with only minor updates. The rear tail lights retain the same design as the pre-facelift model, maintaining consistency in the Hyundai Elantra lineup. The Elantra badge and Hyundai logo on the rear are flat and add a sleek finish.

The rear bumper features an interesting design, resembling an air curtain, although it doesn't serve that purpose. The finished diffuser complements the overall look, and the triangular dirt brake light at the bottom is a signature element in Hyundai's N range. The spoiler and exhaust size appear to be the same as the previous version.

Hyundai Elantra N Interior

Now, let's step inside the 2024 Hyundai Elantra facelift. The door feels solid and well-crafted, even more so than the Honda Civic. While there are hard-touch plastics in some areas, the suede material on the door adds a premium feel. The door handle design remains consistent with the pre-facelift model.

The interior features a familiar steering wheel with NGS and customization modes, along with paddle shifters. The display has seen some software updates, improving responsiveness. The layout remains mostly unchanged, with the sport button for N Line intact. The e-brake is manual, offering a different feel than the electronically operated e-brakes in some competitors. The thoughtful design includes a smaller cup holder for convenience.

The Elantra's cabin offers ample space, and the seats provide excellent support and comfort, ideal for spirited driving. A sunroof is included, enhancing the overall ambiance.

Rear Seats:

Moving to the rear seats, the door maintains the same quality feel. While headroom is slightly limited for taller passengers, there's enough space for most occupants. Unfortunately, there are no rear vents, which is typical for this segment. Also, there's no center console for cupholders, so utilizing the pockets is recommended.

Trunk:

The trunk area remains unchanged, featuring a deep loading floor and a cross brace for added structural support. This design ensures practicality and cargo versatility, a key feature for daily usability.

2024 Elantra Technology Enhancements

  • Standard inclusion of Surround View Monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor, and Parking Distance Warning - Forward & Reverse on the Limited trim, boosting safety and convenience.

  • Introduction of Digital Key 2, compatible with both iPhone and Android devices, providing advanced keyless access.

  • A Vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot to keep passengers connected on the go.

  • Integration of Bluelink+ Connected Car technology for enhanced connectivity and control.

  • Upgraded audio with six standard speakers, and Bose Premium Audio with eight speakers

  • The 10.25-inch infotainment system offering a more immersive experience.

Hyundai Elantra N Ride and Handling

In the realm of ride and handling, the 2024 Elantra N has undergone a series of enhancements aimed at elevating its performance to new heights. These improvements include a reinforced engine mount membrane, enhancing both agility and stability on the road. The addition of G bushing reinforcement further refines the car's yaw response and steering precision, ensuring precise control in various driving conditions.

The transition from rubber to urethane on the rear suspension/ABS insulator brings improvements in damping and yaw response, contributing to a more dynamic driving experience. Complementing these hardware changes, the Electronic Control Suspension (ECS) hardware has been enhanced to deliver superior body control.

To fine-tune the driving experience, the ECS software has been optimized to align seamlessly with the hardware upgrades, ensuring a harmonious blend of control and comfort. Moreover, a change in the steering gear box yoke specification enhances the steering connection and precision, allowing for more responsive handling.

Reducing steering universal joint friction adds another layer of precision to the steering, making every turn and maneuver feel more intuitive and controlled. The Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) software has also undergone optimization to synchronize with the chassis and steering updates, delivering a well-rounded and balanced driving experience.

Lastly, a slight increase in tire pressure, with front tires at 36 psi and rear tires at 34 psi (up from the previous 35/33 psi), optimizes front axle load distribution while preserving the ride and handling equilibrium. These enhancements collectively contribute to the 2024 Elantra N's reputation as a thrilling and well-rounded sport compact sedan.

Hyundai Elantra N Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

In terms of fuel efficiency, the EPA provides ratings for the Elantra N, which vary depending on the transmission choice. Models equipped with a manual transmission receive an EPA rating of 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. On the other hand, the automatic transmission variant achieves 20 mpg in city driving and 30 mpg on the highway.

In real-world testing, we conducted a 75-mph highway fuel economy route to gauge the Elantra N's actual performance. Surpassing its EPA highway estimate, the Elantra N equipped with a manual transmission achieved an impressive 32 mpg. Meanwhile, the automatic-equipped model delivered an even more remarkable result, achieving an impressive 37 mpg. These real-world numbers underscore the Elantra N's efficiency and its capability to outperform its official fuel economy ratings.
