2024 Accord Engine and Performance

The Accord's LX and EX trims are equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, generating 192 horsepower, and it drives the front wheels through a CVT transmission. However, unlike previous generations, the 2024 model does not offer an all-wheel-drive option. Instead, the hybrid powertrain takes a more prominent role in the lineup.

The hybrid powertrain comprises a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors, combining to produce 204 horsepower. It is the exclusive powertrain option for Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, and Touring models. Honda has made improvements to the suspension and steering of the family sedan, aiming to enhance ride quality and handling. During the initial test drive, there weren't significant differences compared to the previous-generation model, which is perfectly fine as the 2024 Accord maintains its refinement and enjoyable driving experience.

Driving the 2024 Honda Accord

The Touring model equipped with the hybrid powertrain achieved a decent zero-to-60-mph time of 6.6 seconds. The hybrid powertrain doesn't have a traditional transmission, but Honda has cleverly programmed it to provide a shifting experience similar to that of a conventional automatic transmission. The Accord's handling is confidence-inspiring, offering precise steering, well-controlled body motions, and a comfortable ride, a combination highly appreciated by drivers and critics alike.

While the Accord is respectably grippy when cornering, it lacks the same natural athleticism that earlier Accord models were known for.

2024 Honda Accord Fuel Economy

· Fuel Efficiency Range: The 2024 Accord offers varying fuel efficiency based on its models. The base-engine model is estimated to achieve 32 mpg combined according to the EPA. Meanwhile, the hybrid model, equipped with smaller 17-inch wheels, impressively achieves 48 mpg combined.

· Real-world Test: Our evaluation focused on the Accord Sport-L, featuring larger 19-inch wheels. This model is estimated to achieve around 44 mpg combined. However, our experts recorded a slightly lower 41.5 mpg during their evaluation.

· Comparison to EPA and Peers: The recorded 41.5 mpg was slightly below both the EPA estimate and the results of other midsize hybrids tested on the same route.

· Overall Efficiency: Despite minor variations, the Accord maintains its status as a notably efficient sedan.

2024 Honda Accord Interior

The Honda Accord boasts an exterior with a sleek design that shares elements with other new Honda models, establishing a cohesive familial DNA. Notably, the honeycomb trim conceals the HVAC air vents, a clever design found in the new Civic and CR-V SUV as well. Honda has made improvements to the front seats for better torso support and shaped the trunk to accommodate up to 16.7 cubic feet of cargo. Cloth upholstery comes with LX, EX, and Sport trims, while leather is standard on all other trims.

Inside the latest Honda Accord, the interior takes a back-to-basics approach, featuring a simple center stack and large, user-friendly buttons and knobs. This design choice ensures ease of use without a steep learning curve, appealing to a broad audience. The car's spacious door openings make getting in and out hassle-free, although taller passengers need to watch their heads due to the sloping roofline when entering the rear seats. While taller rear passengers might slightly graze the headliner, overall space in both rows is generous, providing ample legroom.

From the driver's seat, visibility remains unhindered, thanks to thin windshield pillars and a large rear window. However, raising the driver's seat too high can obstruct the full view of the gauge cluster, which could be problematic for shorter drivers.

The Accord maintains a quiet cabin, effectively blocking unwanted noise, especially when driving in electric mode. While the driver's seat could use more padding like other Honda vehicles, it offers sufficient adjustability for most individuals to find a comfortable driving position. The climate system works well for heating or cooling the car, though certain trim levels lack rear seat air vents, which can be considered a significant oversight.

During our test of the car with 19-inch wheels, we found that it provided a wonderful ride quality. The suspension effectively absorbed major bumps and maintained composure throughout our time with it. We anticipate the EX-L trim, equipped with smaller wheels, would deliver an even smoother ride.

The trunk of the Accord offers a generous 16.7 cubic feet of space, making it suitable for carrying various items, including longer objects like golf bags. The center console area is also spacious, capable of holding smaller items. Additionally, there are conveniently placed cupholders, accommodating larger water bottles securely.

2024 Honda Accord Technology

· Impressive Touchscreen: The 2024 Honda Accord boasts a large 12.3-inch touchscreen. It's even more convenient with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

· Voice Assistant and Integration: Unfortunately, Honda limits Google voice assistant and services to only the top Touring trim. This could be improved by offering these features in lower trims too. For instance, adding an optional package with the Bose system and Google Assistant could enhance the tech experience in cars like the Sport-L.

· Driving Aids: The Honda Sensing suite of driving aids is mostly well-designed. However, the lane-keeping system can be overly intrusive at times. Overall, when all systems work together smoothly, the driving experience is excellent.

· Adaptive Cruise Control: Activating adaptive cruise control is a breeze. Just press a button on the steering wheel, and you're good to go.
