As we approach the end of the current generation, the 2024 Camry marks its final year before a complete redesign arrives in 2025. Some may contemplate waiting for the fresher model, and that's a reasonable consideration. However, the true standout in this lineup is the luxurious 301-hp V-6 engine, which is available in the XLE, XSE models, and the TRD variant. The ride is well-controlled, and the handling is surprisingly responsive. The steering is finely balanced, providing a substantial feel during cornering.

Driving the 2024 Toyota Camry

During testing, we examined the performance of the four-cylinder Camry SE. Toyota has fine-tuned this model to deliver high fuel efficiency, but this optimization comes with a trade-off: the acceleration off the line feels rather sluggish. In our assessment, the test car took an unimpressive 8.2 seconds to reach 60 mph, although in real-world situations, it does feel slightly more spirited. The transmission does help to compensate to some extent, offering reasonably good response and quick shifting. Equipped with eight speeds, it ensures there's always an appropriate gear for various situations, yet when you press on the gas, expect two-gear downshifts as it tries to maximize the available engine power.

The Camry SE benefits from a slightly sportier suspension, contributing to a more hunkered-down feel while driving. Although not designed for aggressive maneuvers, it handles everyday driving tasks with ease. The brakes are responsive and easy to modulate, featuring a light and precise pedal feel. In terms of stopping performance, the Camry's performance falls within the average range for its segment.

The user interface proves straightforward, featuring large, clear gauges and well-labeled buttons that even tech-averse drivers can easily comprehend. Radio volume and tuning knobs, though small, are conveniently located for the driver, although the passenger might need to stretch a bit to access them.
