2024 Toyota Camry Review
Toyota's lineup boasts a slew of familiar vehicles, but none are as recognizable as the Camry. The upcoming 2024 Toyota Camry, a favored midsize sedan, offers both traditional gas and hybrid engine choices. With its capacious interior, providing ample space for passengers in both rows, and a generously-sized trunk, the Camry has won our hearts. While it may not deliver an adrenaline-pumping driving experience, it stands apart from its competitors in the sedan class by presenting an all-wheel-drive option, particularly appealing to those residing in colder climates.
As we approach the end of the current generation, the 2024 Camry marks its final year before a complete redesign arrives in 2025. Some may contemplate waiting for the fresher model, and that's a reasonable consideration. However, even though the 2024 edition might appear a tad dated compared to the Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata, it remains a reliable choice for a midsize sedan. For a comprehensive evaluation of the car's pros and cons, delve into our test team's Expert Rating.
What's new for 2024 Camry?
· No changes for 2024
· Redesigned Camry will come in 2025
· Current model is part of the eighth-generation Camry
2024 Toyota Camry Specs
2024 Camry Powertrain
The standard four-cylinder engine, mated to a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission, unfortunately fails to impress in terms of acceleration figures. The hybrid version, featuring a less powerful iteration of the same engine combined with a battery and two electric motors, doesn't offer a more thrilling driving experience than the base powertrain.
However, the true standout in this lineup is the luxurious 301-hp V-6 engine, which is available in the XLE, XSE models, and the TRD variant. This powerhouse engine is a real gem, providing a delightful driving experience. We are pleased to report that our disdain for driving the Camry is a thing of the past. The ride is well-controlled, and the handling is surprisingly responsive. The steering is finely balanced, providing a substantial feel during cornering.
Driving the 2024 Toyota Camry
During testing, we examined the performance of the four-cylinder Camry SE. Toyota has fine-tuned this model to deliver high fuel efficiency, but this optimization comes with a trade-off: the acceleration off the line feels rather sluggish. In our assessment, the test car took an unimpressive 8.2 seconds to reach 60 mph, although in real-world situations, it does feel slightly more spirited. The transmission does help to compensate to some extent, offering reasonably good response and quick shifting. Equipped with eight speeds, it ensures there's always an appropriate gear for various situations, yet when you press on the gas, expect two-gear downshifts as it tries to maximize the available engine power.
The Camry SE benefits from a slightly sportier suspension, contributing to a more hunkered-down feel while driving. Although not designed for aggressive maneuvers, it handles everyday driving tasks with ease. The brakes are responsive and easy to modulate, featuring a light and precise pedal feel. In terms of stopping performance, the Camry's performance falls within the average range for its segment.
2024 Toyota Camry Interior
The Camry impresses with its large and comfortable seats, ensuring a smooth ride that caters to a wide range of drivers, even on long journeys. The climate control system enhances the overall experience, boasting a powerful and user-friendly design capable of effectively cooling the cabin, even during scorching triple-digit temperatures. For anyone accompanying the ride, the Camry provides a delightful cabin environment.
However, its primary flaw lies in its susceptibility to outside noise intrusion. Acceleration brings about a noticeable engine buzz, and when cruising at highway speeds, wind and road noise become prominent. In this aspect, the Camry falls short compared to the average midsize sedan, which typically offers better noise isolation.
While the Camry's cabin may not dazzle with opulence, it excels in getting the fundamentals right. The airy cabin makes entry and exit hassle-free, and there's ample space for both front and rear passengers, along with excellent outward visibility. An optional 360-degree camera system further eases navigation in tight parking lots.
The user interface proves straightforward, featuring large, clear gauges and well-labeled buttons that even tech-averse drivers can easily comprehend. Radio volume and tuning knobs, though small, are conveniently located for the driver, although the passenger might need to stretch a bit to access them.
2024 Toyota Camry Technology
Navigating the infotainment system is a breeze with both the standard 7-inch and optional 9-inch touchscreens, which are user-friendly and easy to read. For those who require built-in navigation, higher trim levels offer this option. To keep everyone powered up on the go, three USB ports are available, and you can also opt for a wireless charger. The Camry's smartphone integration covers a wide range, including standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa.
Safety is a priority for the Camry, as all models are equipped with Toyota's Safety Sense 2.5+. This suite of standard driver assistance features is truly impressive, encompassing adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. While some of these systems used to be overly sensitive in previous versions, they have been refined for 2021 and now function much more effectively.
2024 Toyota Camry Storage
Its 15.1-cubic-foot trunk area stands out as one of the largest in its class. Additionally, the trunk features a wide opening and a low liftover height, making loading and unloading items a breeze. Need to accommodate longer objects? No problem, as the 60/40-split back seat can be easily folded down using trunk-mounted release handles. Among midsize sedans, the Camry boasts commendable stuff-hauling capabilities
For families with children, the Camry's backseat room is a boon, offering ample space for car seat installation and easily accessible anchors, simplifying the process of securing car seats. The Camry also offers a good amount of concealed storage options. A sliding compartment lies beneath the wireless charger, while a moderately sized center armrest bin and a small storage cubby on the far left-hand side of the dash provide additional space for organizing belongings.
2024 Toyota Camry Fuel Economy
When it comes to fuel efficiency, the 4-cylinder Camry SE truly shines, boasting one of the best EPA fuel economy ratings in its class. With an impressive 32 mpg combined (28 city/39 highway), it ensures a budget-friendly ride without compromising on performance. During our standardized 115-mile evaluation drive, which comprises a combination of city and highway driving, we measured an even better fuel economy of 33.7 mpg, reaffirming the Camry's exceptional efficiency on real-world roads.
2024 Camry Prices
Toyota has released the pricing details for the 2024 Camry, and the listed prices include the $1,095 destination fee. The starting price for the Camry this year is $27,515, which applies to the front-wheel-drive LE model. For the all-wheel-drive LE, the starting price is $28,915. The Hybrid LE models begin at $29,950, while the V6 Camry now starts at $34,580.
Pinkywheels recommends SE trim level. It strikes an appealing balance between value and performance without compromising on comfort or efficiency. Additionally, choosing the SE trim provides access to desirable features such as a panoramic sunroof and a blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic warning, adding extra convenience and safety to the driving experience.
